There are many market changes in the mortgage industry making it more complex, challenging and competitive. Many segments in the industry aren’t reporting growth and haven’t been over the past year. Angel Oak, however, consistently ends each quarter with significant gains. We were up 82% in first quarter 2019 over the same quarter last year. We get a lot of attention, inquiries and press coverage wanting to know how and why. It’s simple. We provide products that a huge population of people need in order to purchase a home. Many borrowers were locked out post-crisis and we came along offering innovative, quality and safe non-QM programs to help them out. Our process of educating the market, growth and numbers have proven the validity and need of non-QM. Awareness is growing and more originators understand the advantages of using non-QM. It’s surprising to us that there is still a perception that these loans are harder to originate. We know that our job of educating the market is not over and so we are constantly talking to many people about it every day.
